As the season turns to fall, Park Interpreters are preparing to greet hundreds of school children at upcoming field trips. Chitactac-Adams Heritage County Park is seeking volunteer docents to assist with these lively adventures. Docents lead short hikes and engage youth in activities related to traditional games, acorn processing, and promoting park stewardship in the next generation.
Nestled along Uvas Creek, this unique archaeological site contains numerous petroglyphs and bedrock mortars revealing more than 3,000 years of community life at Chitactac. The field trip teaches third and fourth graders the many ways in which the ancestors of today’s Amah Mutsun Tribal band utilized the natural resources of the area and continue to keep their culture alive today.
