Past Event - Seniors’ Agenda Network Summit

Transportation is key for older adults to thrive and mobility access is limited for those without a car. Over 150 people gathered on February 6 to learn how can we retrofit our communities for better options for both older drivers and non-drivers. Keynote speaker Professor Sandra Rosenbloom, PhD, from the University of Texas- Austin, shared her 40 years of research and debunked many assumptions about the mobility needs of older people.

Nuria Fernandez, general manager of VTA, moderated a panel discussion between local transportation experts: Jesse Mintz-Roth, City of San Jose Vision Zero; Nikita Sinha, CA Walks; Tylor Taylor, R.Y.D.E.; and Professor Asha Weinstein Agrawal, Mineta Institute on Transportation, SJSU. Special thanks to AARP for sponsoring the refreshments.

West Valley College (see photo) was recognized for being the first community college in the world to join the Age-friendly University Global Network. Chancellor Brad Davis shared some of their Age-friendly programs, including opening the new Wellness Center to older adults and their strong partnership with Saratoga Area Senior Coordinating Council.
