Pizarro: A LOOK AT AGING – March 2016

From The Mercury News

A LOOK AT AGING: The number of senior citizens in the Santa Clara Valley is certainly growing, and for many communities that means a lot of tough discussions about taking care of our elderly in their final years of life. A free event Wednesday afternoon at the Mexican Heritage Plaza addresses just that topic: It’s a free showing of “Being Mortal,” the PBS “Frontline” special made in conjunction with Dr. Atul Gawande’s book of the same name.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion led by Patrick Arbore, founder of the Friendship Line and director of the Center for Elderly Suicide Prevention and Grief Related Services, featuring end-of-life experts from the Asian, Southeast Asian and Latino communities. The event — presented by Santa Clara County’s Office of Aging and Adult Services, the city of San Jose and the Institute on Aging — runs from 2 to 4 p.m. It’s free, but you must register by calling 415-750-4114 or going to http://tinyurl.com/hc6g7f4.
